Part 1: CHART 1-Analysis of a 5-year stock chart for your company:
Instructions on how to find charts and plot benchmarks.
1. Type in your company name, once you are in the company page, there will be a stock chart on the
right side of the screen. To enlarge the chart, click “Chart” on the left menu bar.
2. Find a 5-year chart. To do this, click the 5Y. Copy/paste the chart into a word doc. Write a short
paragraph at the bottom summarizing the results of the chart. Include in your summary, Stock price 5
years ago, current stock price today. Select two points on the chart, one peak (stock increased
significantly in a short time) the second is a significant drop. Discuss these high and low points and
mention the stock price in your summary. The discussion should include news items that were
happening during that time related to the company. a Google search titled, “what happened to
companies stock during the month of ???” Reasons may include economic factors (Interest rate hikes
affect on stock market), an industry issue (oil/gas price increase impact on airlines), an international
event (tariffs on foreign goods, war in Ukraine, etc), or a specific problem related to the company (recall
on products due to safety issues, grounding of airplanes due to accidents, etc.).
As an example: Look at Apple stock chart below. I googled, “what happened to Apple’s stock price in
August 2020?”, which was a peak in Apple’s stock price. My google search took me to an article by
